Berry Control (Detailed Description)

This deck seeks to control the early game by removing any zombies that are fielded and trying not to take too much damage.

During late game (Turn 6+), it aims to burst down the opponent’s health by hitting face with abilities.

When played right, you should always have a card advantage over your opponent.

Try to win around Turn 10.

Turn 1 – 5:

Play control. Focus on removing zombies. Try NOT to hit the opponent’s face too much.

Front zombies with Blooming HeartWhen this does damage, it gets +1 Attack. and Shroom for TwoMake a 1/1 Puff-Shroom with Team-Up here.

Sour GrapesWhen played: Do 1 damage to each Zombie. for 1 health zombie board clear and remove one 3 health zombie (by fronting it).

BluesberryWhen played: Do 2 Damage. can remove one 5 health zombie (by using its ability and fronting it).

If you manage to get Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage. on the field, Sour GrapesWhen played: Do 1 damage to each Zombie. will be a 3 health zombie board clear.

Berry BlastDo 3 damage., Sour GrapesWhen played: Do 1 damage to each Zombie. and BluesberryWhen played: Do 2 Damage. are all berries and get +2 damage with Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage.

2nd-Best Taco of All TimeHeal 4. Draw a card. for healing and card draw.

Turn 6:

Play Dandy Lion KingWhen played: Damage the Zombie Hero for half their Health. for 10 damage to face.

If you did not draw a Dandy Lion KingWhen played: Damage the Zombie Hero for half their Health., try to stall till you get one or proceed to hit face with Grapes of WrathWhen destroyed: Do 6 damage to the Zombie Hero.

Turn 7+:

Play aggro. Focus on hitting face.

Play Grapes of WrathWhen destroyed: Do 6 damage to the Zombie Hero. to hit face. (Grapes of WrathWhen destroyed: Do 6 damage to the Zombie Hero. is a berry as well and benefits from Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage..)

Continue using Turn 1-5 strategy to remove zombies.

Cherry BombDo 4 damage to each Zombie here and next door. and SquashDestroy a Zombie. for big removal. (Cherry BombDo 4 damage to each Zombie here and next door. is a berry as well and benefits from Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage..)

Berry BlastDo 3 damage. and BluesberryWhen played: Do 2 Damage. ability can hit face as well.

If Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage. is on the field, when any berry hit face or a zombie with its ability or during the regular fight phase, there will be +2 damage.

Play CornucopiaWhen played: Make a random Plant in each other lane. as finisher if your opponent survives the berry onslaught. (CornucopiaWhen played: Make a random Plant in each other lane. is not essential in this deck, can replace with anything you like.)

Sergeant Strongberry Loop

If you have 2 Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage. on the field, any damage caused by a berry will hit for infinite damage.

Any berry hitting face or Berry BlastDo 3 damage., BluesberryWhen played: Do 2 Damage., Grapes of WrathWhen destroyed: Do 6 damage to the Zombie Hero. abilities hitting face will be lethal. (This has been nerfed such that the loop can now broken with super block. But with an empty block meter, the loop can still do significant damage.)

The loop can also be used to remove zombies of any health. Notably, Sour GrapesWhen played: Do 1 damage to each Zombie. can now board clear zombies of any health.

**This combo is not necessary for victory. Don’t worry if your Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage. is removed from play, they are not essential for your late game aggro strategy. It will cost your opponent a removal card to get rid of Sergeant StrongberryWhen another Berry does damage, do 2 extra damage., which opens the way for Grapes of WrathWhen destroyed: Do 6 damage to the Zombie Hero.

Variations

Blooming HeartWhen this does damage, it gets +1 Attack. can be replaced with Morning GloryWhen played: This gets +1/+1 if you made at least 6 Sun this turn.

Tips & Notes

Most of the cards in this deck can be purchased under Spudow’s pre-made ‘Berry Powerful’ deck.

This deck’s weakness is Hearty heroes with Armored zombies. Try to mulligan for big removal cards when facing them.

Mulligan for low cost cards, but keep 1 or 2 Dandy Lion KingWhen played: Damage the Zombie Hero for half their Health. and Grapes of WrathWhen destroyed: Do 6 damage to the Zombie Hero. if they appear.

3 out of 4 Solar Flare Superpowers are 1 cost removals. They help to control the early game, use them wisely.

Don’t hit face with SunburnDo 2 damage. You get +1 Sun for the rest of the game., keep it as removal.

PinecloneWhen played: Transform all Plants into 3/3 Pineclones. might have a role in this deck to transform Shroom for TwoMake a 1/1 Puff-Shroom with Team-Up here. and More SporeMake two 1/1 Button Mushrooms in random lanes.

Kernel CornWhen played: Do 4 damage to each Zombie. can be used as a late game removal as well.

Poison IvyAnti-Hero 4 is actually a berry after the update.

Other berries to experiment with are High-Voltage CurrantThis gets +1 Attack when another Berry does damage. When played: Add a random Berry to your hand.Wild BerryWhen played: This moves to another random lane. and Electric BlueberryAfter combat here: Do 6 damage to a random Zombie or the Zombie Hero.

New berries might be added in future PvZ Heroes updates.

This is too reliant on getting good cards and assuming that your enemy is not able to efficiently remove said berries and aware of this strategy and use zombies that are unremovable.

Every deck will have some form of ‘end game’ cards and this deck has 10 (Dandy Lion King, Grapes of Wrath and Cornucopia). You need at least 1 or 2 of any of these to win and the probability of drawing them is decent. I prefer a streamlined strategy with specific cards than a variety of different cards as you might not draw them when you need them most. And most of the cards in this deck deals damage based on their abilities, so it is not as easy to counter. Regarding removal of berries, most of the utility of the berries come from ‘when played’ abilities, so it is not a problem if they are removed. The idea is to stall till the late game and then overwhelm the opponent with large cards every single turn, and taking face damage with each of the card’s abilities. For removal of zombies, this deck is weak to Hearty Heroes with heals and Armored zombies, so can try to include more big removal if necessary.
